Finally Got My Mug – Starbucks/ Contigo Extreme Tumbler

I’m so excited. I found this mug at Starbucks called the Extreme Tumbler awhile back and before I could cough up the cash for it they discontinued it. Its a travel mug with a non-leak lid and a caribeaner like clip at the bottom of the handle that I can can clip on to my back like I do with my Nalgene bottle. Today while walking past an aisle at Target with coffee mugs on it something caught my eye. What, it can’t be I thought to myself. But it is, some other company is selling the Extreme Tumbler under their name and nothing has changed about the mug except no Starbucks name or logo. I am so excited. This is the coffee cup of my dreams.

Please. You need to tell me who makes this mug and what they are calling it (and how much it was). These are the best thermal coffee mugs ever made. Completely leak proof, stays hot for hours, fits in any cupholder and stainless steel (non stinkifying) interior! So… who makes it?? Thanks!

Hey, I LOVE this coffee cup myself. I lost mine years ago and I’ve refused to buy ana different kind. Do you know which company makes it? My family needs 6 different colours. Starbucks is out. Caribou Cofffee has only 2 colours (red/blue). But I’ve seen people with white, silver, bronze, hunter fgreen, etc. Please help me sfind this mug.

Contigo is the brand name and they sell them at Bed-Bath and Beyond. However, while the cup appears to be structurally the same, I’m not convinced it is the same. It does not seem to keep the coffee as hot for as long and the outside gets hot which did not happen with previous copies I’ve owned (I’ve had at least 3 others)….

Kurt,

You are right for some reason the new ones they are making are not vacuum sealed, but rather have styrofoam insert instead. You can still find some of the originals you just have to take the bottom off and look for the vacuum seal and you’ll get nice hot coffee for longer.

To all – the company that made these mugs is named Contigo, and indeed they are without a doubt the best coffee mugs in the world.

WARNING – The Starbucks Extreme Tumbler is the best coffee mug made. If you like hot coffee, it will keep it hot all day. Personally, I am originally from the South and I like cold beverages. The Extreme Tumbler will also keep ice in your drink all day even when it 100 degrees. It will also keep ice in your drink overnight for those who like cold water when they wake in the morning.

The Contigo travel mug appears to be the same but it is actually another example of a company that decided to deceive its customers and produce a cheap rip off product that is void of insulation. It will keep a drink iced for about 1 hour.

This is NOT the same product and Contigo ought to be ashamed of themselves for sacrificing quality for profit.

Yes, the ridiculously priced Starbucks Extreme Tumbler is, hands down, the best travel mug ever made. My coffee stays hot for an entire work day and, yes, if you want your beverages cold your ice will stay frozen overnight. This mug is a miracle of modern science.

I, like others, had hoped that the Contigo version my husband and I purchased after Starbucks had discontinued the Extreme would be the same item, but it is far inferior. I am shocked that there doesn't seem to be a manufacturer out there picking up the Extreme Tumbler torch, since the performance difference is so obvious. (When my husband and I head out for a road trip with our two mugs side by side, I'm still amazed at how long my Extreme Tumbler keeps beverages insulated compared to the very lame poser Contigo version.)

Heck, I'd even pay the thirty-something bucks all over again for the Extreme Tumbler if someone would produce it again. In fact, the only reason I'd like to replace mine is cosmetic. The tinted plastic coating on the stainless exterior has worn away in places and I'm tired of the way it looks.

PLEASE won't someone out there convince Starbucks we need this mug!?
