Just like with the biker crowd, there are the elitists who aren't really bikers, but want to pretend they are. Then there are the purists who think that everybody else isn't worth their time. But in my experience, at least, there is a certain amount of brotherhood amongst boaters. There are a lot of people who own boats who aren't really boaters and some who tend to think more of themselves, but we have met people over the years simply because we were both on boats. Just like bikers, their is a bit of a class segmentation. Sailboats, fishing boats, luxury yachts, wanna be luxury yachts. But there is a lot of crossover as well. This may not be true in Daytona, but it seems to be where I have boated over the years.
