>>-Worship-<<

June 1, 2005

This week we start a worship service for our student ministry. Now of course I have been around conferences, camps, retreats and other student ministries that offer worship to this age group, but I have never been apart of the group that provides a worship experience. We have two talented guys, who are going to lead our venture into worship, who are great. I very excited about this. It has been in the works for months. Songs have been picked out. We have decided to make it participatory in nature than the those involved in worship being an audience. Our band, all two of them, will sit off the stage so that the focus will be on the screen. We are going to add in times of spoken word and poetry, prayer, congregational reading, use of senses. I know its not new, but its new to us. I want to start by offering this type of experience rather than have to change it later when we get a clue. Starting anything with a frame of reference and then adapting it to your situation is a place to start. Starting right for a change will hopefully make it more meaningful. I have seen situations where its a show and everyone knows it. I have seen it when the people on stage are not leading worship but leading songs sung. I don’t want that. I know for my self I want a time that I can stop and have meaningful worship, meaningful time with God in song and prayer. And I hope that our students find that, too.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.
