Seeds

April 15, 2005

I’ll be honest. I have been down a lot lately because of lack of Spiritual Growth among my Jr and Sr High student ministry. You prepare messages, plan retreats and activities, list could on and on and in return from them you get nothing. I have questioned my methods, teaching style, my call to ministry to students and my call to my ministry in Savannah. As I sat in a coffee house this morning just down the street from where I live I read a few chapters out of a book I picked up back in March call “The Core Realities of Youth Ministry” by the late Mike Yaconelli. He was talking about Veracity (truth being lived), a word that we don’t much anymore, and he was talking about how veracity (truth) is resilient in the lives of those who go through our minstries and he brings up two parables that remind me of why I cannot let myself get down about my deliema. Its the parable of the seeds and the harvest. Not every student is going to be a core student or even a strong student some of the ministry is going to fall in the places that Jesus says are suitable for growing. While it seems that most of my soil is not suitable I have to trust the Holy Spirit to work and on God’s time table. If you are struggling with this take encouragement from these passages and know we are still God’s havesters ready for the harvest and that never changes.
